Furniture Upcycling & Decorative Restoration
Give old pieces a new life
The best furniture doesn't always look its best. A piece with good bones — solid timber, quality joinery, a form that's genuinely worth keeping — can spend years looking tired, scuffed, and out of place, not because anything is wrong with it but because the surface finish has had its day.
Furniture upcycling at Delicious Signs isn't about covering something in chalk paint and calling it shabby chic. It's about understanding what a piece is, what it could be, and what combination of preparation, painting, and decorative detailing will make it genuinely beautiful again — or beautiful for the first time.
Work ranges from straightforward painted finishes (flat colour, satin, eggshell, in any colour from a matched standard range or a custom mix) to more involved decorative treatments: hand-painted lettering and monograms, illustrated panels, gilded details, botanical motifs, striping, and freehand ornament. The decorative possibilities are wide, and the skill set that goes into painted signage translates directly into this kind of work — because the materials and techniques are the same.
Common commissions include kitchen cabinets and dressers, wardrobes and bedframes, dining chairs and tables, blanket boxes, wooden toys, mirrors and frames, and pieces inherited or found that deserve better than they've been given.
Every piece is assessed individually for its current condition, the preparation required, and the most appropriate paint system. Pieces are taken in to the studio where possible; larger items can be worked on in situ. Finishes are selected for durability as well as appearance — furniture takes more physical contact than a wall, and the paint needs to handle it.
If you have a piece you love but can't quite use, get in touch with a photo and a description. Chances are it can be transformed.
